The article, titled "Service Learning and Social Justice in Architecture Education: Teaching Students to Design for the 'Other'," is currently available in the journal's online bookstore, with hardcopies available for future purchase.
Undergraduates鈥 commitment to research evident at MSU summer symposium
Baleigh A. Hull, a senior architecture major, won first in the Arts and Humanities category of the 2019 海角社区 State Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium. She was advised by Silvina Lopez Barrera, assistant professor in the 海角社区.

Design Discovery 2019: Kit of Parts
You will be given a 鈥渒it of parts," that is, a set of pieces you can work with and asked to make a model that has both a defined 鈥渆nclosed鈥 or private space(s) and a defined 鈥渙pen鈥 or more public space(s). These models are abstract; the solid 鈥減ieces鈥 are there only to define the space between them. There is no numeric scale to this project; let the relationship between the open and enclosed spaces show scale.

Design Discovery 2019: Lounge Device Project
This project challenges campers to work in groups to create a cardboard lounge table device. Each team will be given multiple sheets of cardboard.
Before you make the finished device, each team will produce three 1/4-sized study models and one full-size connection detail.
By working through this process of design, the devices will be more thoughtful and coherent at the end of the project.
The cardboard lounge table device must support at least one person from the team as well as perform one other task determined by the group.
Design Discovery 2019: Group Sketching
Architects use detail drawing as a means of communicating physical conditions. Detail drawing is also a tool for working out design decisions. Learning to use detail drawing is an important skill for any architect.
In this project, campers will have a chance to practice drawing in detail. After a brief introduction to the basics of drawing and detail drawing, students will be guided to sketch various parts of Giles Hall.
